Morris dancers from across the country demonstrated their traditional pastime in Otley last weekend.
The Day of Dance had been organised by the town’s own Buttercross Belles, as part of the celebrations to mark Otley’s hosting of The Morris Federation’s annual meeting.
The Belles had promised a day of “colour, fun, clogs, bells and traditional music” on Saturday, and that’s what was delivered, with visiting sides showing off their different styles at spots around town, including the Manchester Square maypole and outside several pubs.
Janet West, from the Pateley Longsword team, said: “All the dancers met up at Otley Courthouse then split up to dance at different venues, including The Horse and Farrier. It was a really good day.”
Representatives from the groups attended the AGM at the Courthouse later in the day, before enjoying a ceilidh and a celebration cake, marking the Buttercross Belles’ 20th anniversary, which was cut by Otley town mayor, Councillor Mary Vickers (Lib Dem, Prince Henry).
