Yorkshire Air Ambulance in action for Helicopter Heroes

Life-saving Yorkshire Air Ambulance crews return to TV screens this week with the sixth series of Helicopter Heroes.

The fly-on-the-wall documentary follows the work of the two Yorkshire Air Ambulances as they are deployed to help seriously ill and injured patients throughout the region. The programme, which began on Monday, is airing on BBC1 at 9.15am on weekdays for four consecutive weeks this month. One rescue features a cyclist who suffered a cardiac arrest and was saved by passers-by using skills they picked up from the Vinnie Jones CPR advert.

The series also includes footage of a lorry driver who becomes a patient after delivering oxygen cylinders to the local ambulance station, and a diver who is rushed to the hyperbaric chamber for treatment after suffering from the bends.

Programme editor, Ian Cundall, said: “We're very grateful to the YAA team and to the patients who agreed to share many inspiring stories with us. In many cases, they’re the real heroes of the programme.”
