Horsforth homes plans exhibition is dismissed

Public exhibitions of plans to build hundreds of new homes on the edge of Horsforth have been dismissed by councillors as meaningless.

Developers Redrow held the events – one in Hors-forth and two in Calverley – for people to learn more about detailed proposals for the former Clariant site at Calverley Lane.

The company already has outline permission to build hundreds of homes on the plot, which is just off the ring road, and an adjoining housing develop-ment at the Riverside site at Low Hall Road will bring the total number of new homes to about 550.

Critics of the proposals say they will place an unsustainable burden on local infrastructure, cause traffic and road safety problems and precipitate a schools-places crisis.

Councillor Chris Towns-ley (Lib Dem, Horsforth) said: “These public events really were just about tick-ing a box – they won’t cha-nge anything substantial.

“We did try to encourage people to go and have a look just so they could have some input into how aspects of the housing would look.”

Final proposals will go before a future plans panel.
