Support for Friends is welcomed

It was standing room only at the first annual meeting of the Friends of Yeadon Banks.

Nearly 50 people turned up for the event on Tuesday night.

Otley and Yeadon ward councillor, Ryk Downes, said: “I was very impressed with the attendance. The number of local people that care about the area they live in and are prepared to help to maintain Yeadon Banks is a credit to the people of Yeadon. I believe the future of the Banks, with their input, will mean it will be a place of great beauty for all to enjoy for many years to come.”

A total of 36 people joined the group and £100 was raised. There is £300 already pledged, including £150 from Yeadon councillors.

Christine Schofield, who was elected chairman, appealed for volunteers to help remove ragwort – a harmful weed that can kill horses – from the Banks this weekend. Bin liners and gloves will be provided, but volunteers are asked to take their own digging forks and meet at the Haw Lane entrance.

The session takes place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday.
