The Liberal Democrats kept their hold in Horsforth where long-standing councillor and former Leeds Mayor Chris Townsley easily held onto his seat.
In Harewood the Conservatives had a resounding victory with the re-election of Ann Castle.
The results were –
Horsforth
Andrea Binns ( Green) – 317.
Richard Hardcastle (Conservative) – 1725.
Paul Hellyer (UKIP) – 453.
Gary Kaye (Lab) – 1381.
Andy Smith (Trade Unionists and Socialists Against Cuts) – 77.
Chris Townsley – (Liberal Democrats) – 2636.
Harewood
Richard Beacham ( Labour) – 1156.
Patricia Capstick (Green) – 262.
Ann Castle ( Conservative) – 3555 Sara Howell ( Liberal Democrats) – 312.
The Conservatives also held onto their seat in Guiseley and Rawdon – although a close run battle with Labour. Long-standing councillor Graham Latty was re-elected with 2750 votes – while Labour’s Mike King won 2526. The results were Colin Avison (Green) – 621. Robert Jacques ( Liberal Democrats) – 397. Mike King (Labour) – 2526. Graham Lattly (Conservative) - 2750 Peter Morgan (UKIP) - 636
Adel & Wharfedale
Barry Anderson (The Conservative Party) 3,674 votes, elected Gareth Christie (Alliance for Green Socialism), 71 Nigel Gill, (The Labour Party) 1,301 Paul Marchant (The Green Party), 217 Christina Shaw (Liberal Democrats), 1,202 Claire Wilson-Sharp (United Kingdom Independence Party), 486
In Otley & Yeadon Otley Town Council's leader Councillor John Eveleigh was trying to take what had been retiring Councillor Graham Kirkland's seat from the Liberal Democrats for Labour. But Coun Eveleigh, attracting 2,615 votes to take second place, fell short and the seat was retained for the Lib Dems by fellow town Councillor Sandy Lay, who got 3,259 votes.
The results were: Sandy Lay (Liberal Democrats), 3,259 votes, elected John Eveleigh (The Labour Party), 2,615 votes Makhan Thakur (The Conservative Party), 947 votes Steven Crossan (The Green Party), 474 votes Ryan Preston (Trade Unionists and Socialists Against Cuts), 176 votes See next week's Wharfedale and Aireborough Observer for results, comment and reaction.
