Outstanding results put Wharfedale primary schools high in the tables

HIGH-performing schools in Wharfedale have been ranked among the best in the country as this year’s Key Stage 2 SATs tables were revealed.

Performance results for state primary schools in local authorities across the country were released this week, based on the tests sat by primary school children in English, maths and science in the summer.

Schools across Wharfedale and Aireborough performed well within the Leeds and Bradford local authorities, and three schools have been ranked among the best in the country.

National newspapers this week placed Askwith Community Primary School and Ben Rhydding Primary School joint 90th in the country – tied with several other schools – based on the average SATs point score per pupil.

And regular high performer Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, in Ilkley, was ranked joint 119th.

Meanwhile, Menston Primary School was ranked among the top five per cent nationally for contextual value added (CVA) scores, which measure children’s progress between Key Stage One and Two.

Schools in the Ilkley area were also ranked highly within the Bradford District, based on an aggregation of the percentages of pupils achieving Level 4 in each subject.

Ranked fourth in the district was Sacred Heart in Ilkley. All pupils who sat the tests at the school gained the Level 4 standard in English, maths and science.

Menston was ranked fifth, with 96 per cent of pupils gaining Level 4 in English, 98 per cent in maths, and 100 per cent in science.

The authority league tables put Ben Rhydding Primary sixth, with 97 per cent reaching the standard in English, 97 per cent in maths and 100 per cent in science.

Ashlands Primary in Ilkley was ranked 14th in the Bradford District, with 98 per cent reaching Level in English, 90 per cent in maths and 98 per cent in science.

Ranked 15th in the district was Burley Oaks Primary, Burley-in-Wharfedale. Ninety-five per cent of pupils who took the tests gained English Level 4, 90 per cent gained the standard in maths, and 98 per cent were level four in science.

All Saints C of E Primary in Ilkley was ranked 16th, with 87 per cent of pupils achieving level 4 in English, 96 per cent in maths and 100 per cent in science.

Addingham Primary was 20th in the district. Ninety-two per cent of the pupils who took the SATs tests gained Level 4 in English, 92 per cent gained Level 4 in Maths, and 95 per cent in science.

Burley and Woodhead C of E Primary was placed 44th in the district. Eighty-seven per cent of pupils who sat the tests gained Level 4 in English, 83 per cent gained the standard in maths and 93 per cent in science.

Bradford Council’s executive member for services to children and young people said: “We’re very pleased with the results at Key Stage 2 in Bradford and we congratulate schools, staff and pupils on their achievements.

“I’m particularly pleased to see an overall improvement in maths and science and a narrowing of the gap with national results.”

The results across the district also lifted the Bradford to 130th out of 152 local authorities.

Wharfedale, Aireborough and Horsforth schools in the Leeds area also showed impressive SATs results, although authority rankings had yet to be released yesterday.

Westbrook Lane Primary School in Horsforth was one of the top performers in Leeds, will all of the pupils who sat the Key Stage 2 SATs tests achieving Level 4 in English, maths and science.

Hawksworth C of E Primary School, Hawksworth Village, also gained good marks. All the SATs candidates gained Level 4 in English and science, and 85 per cent achieved the standard in maths.

All Bramhope Primary School SATs candidates gained the standard in English, 94 per cent reached Level 4 in maths and 97 per cent in science.
