Date set for funeral of motor bike crash PC

The funeral of a well-loved police officer who was killed in a motorbike accident is to be held next week.

PC Ian Walker died after he was flung from his motor bike during a collision with another vehicle earlier this month.

The accident happened on Bolton Road, Bradford, as the 50-year-old from Bramhope was riding his bike to work. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

PC Walker, who had been with the police for 28 years had recently taken up a post with the traffic department of Bradford North division.

He was due to marry his fiance, Sarah, next year.

In a statement, his family, which includes his parents, brother and two children - paid tribute to his boundless energy and enthusiasm and described him as a deeply passionate man, particularly when faced with injustice or cruelty'.

It stated that PC Walker, who enjoyed regular bit' parts in Emmerdale, Coronation Street and A Touch of Frost, had owned a motor bike since his days as a paper boy and had ridden the length and breadth of Europe on his bike.

He had made plans to travel through the Americas in retirement.

The statement went on: "His family were his life and they are a very close knit unit, living a short distance apart and sharing as much time as possible together."

PC Walker's funeral will take place at Leeds Parish Church, Kirkgate on Tuesday, October 30, at 12.30pm.

The family have asked for donations to be made to road safety charity Brake' and the Dogs Trust Fund'.

A collection box will be made available at the church.
