A GRITTY but heartwarming drama set in a northern pub will be performed at Otley Courthouse this month.

Reform Theatre Company will present Two, which revolves around a landlord and landlady whose cheery banter barely disguises their mutual contempt, on Friday, May 18.

Written by Jim Cartwright - the award-winning writer of Little Voice and Road - the play focuses on one night in the pub that has played such a central role in the couple's lives.

During the evening assorted customers pass through including a little boy who was left by his father.

This event triggers a move towards a fragile reconciliation between the couple as their secret tragedy, covered over for seven years, comes to a head after drinking-up time.

An Otley Courthouse spokeswoman said: "We are thrilled to have Reform Theatre Company back again with another of their highly regarded plays.

"Having brought John Godber’s The Debt Collectors to Otley two years ago, they returned last year to present their own production, Hopeless Romantics, to another sell-out crowd.

"This year they are working with Harrogate Theatre and Middlesbrough Theatre to present their latest play, Two.

"Reform Theatre never fail to deliver with their performance, so come along and enjoy an evening of drama and emotion as this latest play unfolds."

Tickets for the show, which starts at 7.30pm, cost £12 and can be booked by visiting www.otleycourthouse.org.uk, calling (01943) 467466 or popping into the Courthouse, on Courthouse Street.
