A FUNDRAISING darts tournament in Otley has been renamed in honour of 'the voice of Yorkshire Cricket'.

Sports commentator Dave Callaghan, who worked for BBC Radio Leeds and Look North, died last month, aged 63, following a heart attack.

Mr Callaghan had been working with The Otley Tavern and the Dickie Bird Foundation to host a darts competition in the pub in July.

Landlord Peter Jackson says the tournament will still go ahead - now under the title of the Dave Callaghan Memorial Darts Knockout.

Mr Jackson said: "The tournament had been organised by myself, the Dickie Bird Appreciation Society and Dave Callaghan.

"Sadly, Dave passed away suddenly in March but we are continuing with this tournament in his name.

"We are looking for one hundred competitors, with the winner receiving a dart board that has been signed by world class players.

"All proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Dickie Bird Appreciation Society, which helps many children progress into sports."

Entrance to the competition costs £5 - for more details contact The Otley Tavern on (01943) 463711 or Mr Jackson on 07799 465070.
