A SERIES of Dancing with Parkinson's classes will begin in Otley next month.

The sessions, for people with the disease and other conditions which restrict mobility, will start at Otley Courthouse on Wednesday, May 2.

Further weekly 'taster' classes, all taking place from 11.30am to 12.30am, will continue through May.

Charitable company Ascendance is running the programme with support from Leeds Inspired, Arts Council England and Parkinson's UK.

Ascendance's Artistic Director, Rachel Wesson, said: "We are thrilled that we are able to offer such an important programme in Otley.

"This allows us to open a community class that has can improve quality of life, balance, gait and postural stability.

"We can’t wait to start getting people moving again."

Designed to promote feelings of freedom, the classes will teach a mix of dance styles ranging from the tango to a hand jive.

Participants will also be encouraged to stay on afterwards to enjoy a raffle, coffee and cake.

The sessions are open to all ages along with carers and friends - to book a place or find out more visit www.ascendance.org.uk, send an e-mail to classes@ascendance.org.uk or call 07933 685359.
