A CAMPAIGNING Otley councillor has launched a new appeal - for a school minibus.

Councillor Peter Jackson (Lib Dem, Ashfield) announced in 2014 that he would be driving a campaign to get a network of defibrillators installed across town.

With some 14 of the publicly accessible life-saving devices now in place he can safely consider that goal accomplished.

His next fundraising initiative will be to raise £40,000 for a new minibus for Ashfield Primary School - which will be available to other schools within the local 'cluster', too.

Cllr Jackson said: "I am starting this ambitious campaign as I feel very strongly that children from Otley schools should receive the best education our schools can offer, which should include regular visits to educational sites across our region.

"Due to the Government's cuts all schools have a very difficult task to maintain the current standards of education, despite the fantastic job they are doing now.

"The £40,000 will cover the cost of a brand new, 17 seater minibus plus insurance for the first year, advanced driver training for up to four people to confirm with Midas requirements, breakdown recovery and a section 19 bus permit.

"I realise it is a big task but I believe we can do this, together, and give our Otley schools a helping hand."

The minibus will come installed with a range of features to aid safety and comfort, including side window demisters, an electric side step, a rear parking sensor and a satellite navigation system.
