A WHARFEDALE MP has hailed the energy provider switching habits of his constituents.
A new report by the Energy Switch Guarantee shows that Leeds North West - which includes Otley and Yeadon - has the highest switching rate in the country.
Last year 8,444 households, 23 per cent of the total, in the area changed to a new energy provider.
MP Alex Sobel (Lab, Leeds North West) said: "It’s great to see that so many residents within Leeds North West are actively seeking to reduce their energy bills.
"I’m sure that the Energy Guarantee Initiative has had a large part to play in that.
"At a time where living costs are rising and wages are stagnating for many people, it’s crucial that companies’ prices are as transparent as possible and that people can access better prices elsewhere as easily as possible."
He added: "One of the major issues facing consumers within the energy market is the lack of smaller, locally based providers.
"That’s why its such great news that here in Leeds we have White Rose Energy, our very own ‘not-for-profit’ supplier set up by Leeds City Council.
"It is a great asset that gives power back to the consumer - I am a customer myself and I couldn’t be happier with the service I receive."
