A CROWD of nearly 50 people braved wintry weather to watch an Otley church's first Live Nativity.

The Bridge Church held the event on its lawn last Sunday, December 10 when the story of the Nativity was read by its Minister, Reverend Jason McCullagh.

Members of the congregation acted out the events leading up to Jesus' birth with Eleanor Davies and Noah Dockar playing the key roles of Mary and Joseph.

They were supported by a cast of shepherds, wise men, Bethlehem landladies and King Herod, played by Michael Tullett.

The whole story was interspersed with carols which the audience was encouraged to join in.

Rev McCullagh said: "The Live Nativity is designed to take the story out into the community.

"I wanted it to be something that we did in order to have fun, and to celebrate the simple story at the heart of the Christmas celebration."

The church will be reprising its performance again this Sunday, December 17, at 2:30pm - when hot drinks and mince pies will be served afterwards.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Then on Wednesday, December 20 The Bridge Church will host a Carols by Candlelight service at 7pm.

Finally on Christmas Eve - Sunday, December 24 - the church will hold a family-focussed Crib Service at 4pm and then a Midnight Mass, from 11.30pm.
