AN APPERLEY Bridge pub is supporting a girls football team by serving up free post-match lunches.

The Stansfield Arms lays on hot meals for Bradford City Girls players after every home match - and the treat also extends to opposition teams.

The pub's manager Phil Gelder said: "The Stansfield Arms is keen to get involved with the local community. We’ve always supported Bradford City at the pub and held the 20th anniversary memorial dinner here. We have a good relationship with Bradford City Women’s team too and so thought it would be nice to extend this to the junior teams including the under 12 girls team. We wanted to do something for the girls who play their home games on the fields opposite the pub."

He added: "The girls are very appreciative of the spread and it’s a nice way to celebrate a home victory or a good performance for the whole team."

Neil Cairns, manager of Bradford City Under 12 girls said: "It’s very generous of the Stansfield Arms to welcome the girls’ teams after they’ve played their games. It’s a great way of bonding and relaxing as a team after the game and reflecting on the performance. It also provides a great way for the players and parents to mingle in a sociable environment."

He added: "We can also extend an invitation to opposition teams to join us post-match which is great for team spirit and complete enjoyment of the game."
