GUISELEY AFC has officially launched its support for a charity which helps children with cancer.

The club is raising funds for Give A Duck as their nominated charity and are hoping to raise enough funds across the season to allow the charity to buy 100 'chemo-ducks'. The ducks which are used for comfort and play therapy are also used to support and educate children and their families after a diagnosis and during treatment.

The fund-raising, which was launched at a recent game against Eastleigh, will take many different forms and is being supported by the whole club - first team, women’s side, the academy, the community foundation and supporters’ club.

GAFC Operations Manager Trudi Hannaford said: "They will all get behind this fantastic cause and help to hit the target.

"There will be a series of events and activities across the season to enjoy whilst helping this great charity, so watch out for quiz nights, football tournaments, a golf day and cake bakes."

The launch, which included a Slam Ball Challenge organised by Nuffield Health, Guiseley, and a bucket collection, raised £114. This will allow Give-A-Duck to buy four chemo-ducks for children undergoing cancer treatment.

Ms Hannaford said: "This is a great start to our fundraising campaign, both the club and Give-A-Duck would like to thank the supporters of GAFC and Eastleigh who gave so generously."

The GAFC Supporters’ Club will have a collection tin on their desk in the clubhouse before all home matches for people to put any loose change in.

The Supporters' Club are also taking a Chemo Duck on their travels to publicise the campaign. So far the duck has travelled to Barrow and Wrexham and will make his first appearance in the south this weekend as he travels to Maidenhead.
