BRAMHOPE has double cause to celebrate following the results of this year's Yorkshire in Bloom contest.
The village's In Bloom group received a gold award for its spring and summer planting plus a rare discretionary award for its work at the War Memorial site.
The judges noted that: "Everything, everywhere continues to impress and maintain the outstanding community involvement."
Bramhope in Bloom Chair Janet Hobson said: "We were all surprised that we had been awarded gold as the judges spotted an enormous Fox and Cubs weed, which we actually like so hadn't removed, and noted an area where the grass had not been cut.
"So we were elated at achieving gold.
"After all we are all volunteers and cannot do everything, plus we are keen on conservation and some weeds are a flower only in the wrong place!
"The award spurs us on, although our main aim is to make Bramhope an even lovelier place to live."
