NORWOOD has enjoyed another annual village Show and Sports Day - despite rainy weather.

The 2017 event was held at the Social Hall on Saturday, September 9 and proved a hit with entrants and visitors of all ages.

The competitive entries covered classes ranging from decorated scarecrows to vegetable or fruit animals, alongside more conventional categories including baking and handicrafts.

A host of games, including sack races and Wellie throwing, were also cheered on during the day.

Show Secretary Helen Ellis said: "The rain poured down but that didn’t stop people enjoying their annual show and sports day.

"The event was once again a great success, the entries in the handicraft classes were brilliant and the children did a fantastic job in the baking classes.

"Whilst the handicraft and baking entries were being judged the rain stopped just in time for the parents, grandparents and friends to watch the children compete in the sport races which included everything from Wellie throwing to a three-legged race."

Helen also, on behalf of the show committee, expressed her gratitude to the judges for choosing all the winning entries.

She added: "A huge thanks also goes to the helpers on the day, who very kindly gave up their Saturday afternoon, and to The Sun Inn at Norwood, Brown Bank (Farmers) Ltd and Mr and Mrs F Dawson - all very kindly sponsored some of the handicraft classes.

"Thanks too to Mr and Mrs Ainsley who kindly sponsored the baking classes, Scott Fisher Roofing for very kindly sponsoring the schedule, and Millstones Restaurant, on Skipton Road for donating the lovely food for the afternoon teas.

"The sports were kindly sponsored by Richard Gill and Sons while the Norwood Charities very kindly donated commemorative books and first, second and third place rosettes for all the trophy winners, as well as individual rosettes for all children who took part in the sports."
