A GUISELEY woman's devotion to Girlguiding has been recognised with a long service award.
Jane Girt was presented with the award in recognition of 30 years as a leader with Brownies and Guides. She has also been Reva District Commissioner overseeing guiding in Guiseley, and Chevin Division Commissioner overseeing Guiding in Guiseley and Otley.
Jane, a mother of three grown-up children, is an active member of St Oswald's Church in Guiseley and is involved in running the newly-set up church youth club on Friday evenings. Since 2013 she has been deputy headteacher at Carlton Bolling College in Bradford.
She said: "I was Brownie Guider with 1st Esholt Brownies for ten years before becoming Guide Guider at 1st Esholt Guides. Which I have been for the last 20 years."
She added: "I love the fact that the Guides experience a range of activities and challenges in an all girl environment. It is a privilege to watch them develop the skills and self confidence to reach their potential and enjoy themselves whilst they are doing this. I am very fortunate that I belong to a great team of leaders who give tirelessly of their time week after week as well as on residentials and camps. Fun and friendship are key motivators for me still being a leader. Each year we do a winter weekend away indoors and usually a summer camp. My favourite times are when we take the girls away whether to Ilkley Moor, Lytham St Annes, Adelboden in Switzerland to name but a few of the places we have visited."
Jane was outdoor activities adviser for Leeds county for 10 years and was a sub camp leader at the World Centenary Camp at Harewood House.
"This was amazing as I met Guides and Guiders from all over the world and saw what an amazing organisation I was part of," she said.
