A YEADON pub will hold a day of free events this weekend to celebrate the first anniversary of its new ownership.

The White Swan, on the High Street, was taken over and refurbished a year ago by Leeds Taverns, and it is marking the anniversary of its transformation with celebrations on Saturday, April 1.

Children will be kept enthralled with entertainment from Cosmo, and free food from 1pm.

From 3pm to 5pm the Magic Circle's Magician of the Year Sebastian Walton will entertain and there will be a barbecue. In the evening, from 8pm, there will be free entertainment from live covers band OK Alaska, best known in their other guise as City of Lights.

The pub, which sells real ales and prides itself on the quality of its food, is managed by Beth O'Connor, who also worked for the previous owners for four years.

On Saturday she was presented with a plaque by the West Riding branch of the Society for the Preservation of Beer from the Wood, who have made The Swan their pub of the season.

The pub has re-established itself as a music venue and holds open mic style sessions hosted by Joe Dunwell of The Dunwells band and Marc Otway and Abi Uttley of Issimo. Other events have included live bands, and a burlesque night in aid of the Yorkshire Cancer Centre, as well as a coffee morning for Macmillan, bingo for pensioners, and a bonfire and fireworks display in conjunction with Yeadon Cricket Club.
