RESIDENTS at MHA care home Glen Rosa in Ilkley are celebrating after it performed strongly in a nationwide survey of care home residents.

The results show Glen Rosa was given an overall performance rating score of 980 out of 1,000. The national average was 880.

The Your Care Rating survey, which Glen Rosa took part in, is now in its fifth year and is the country’s largest survey of care home residents. The nationwide survey gives residents a voice, putting their care at the heart of understanding more about how well care homes perform. Over 18,000 residents in 914 care homes across the UK took part.

Each care home was given an overall score based on residents’ feedback across four themes; Staff and Care, Home Comforts, Choice and Having a Say, and Quality of Life. MHA Glen Rosa achieved scores of 989 for Choice and Having a Say and 999 for Quality of Life, meaning the residents of Glen Rosa highly rate the standard of care they receive in these areas.

Care home manager at MHA Glen Rosa, Sylvia Blackburn said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the results and proud to see that our residents value the care they receive at Glen Rosa so highly. Our scores across all four themes are extremely positive which reflects that life for our residents here is happy and fulfilling.

“This survey enables families to see at a glance which care homes are committed to raising standards and transparency which is extremely important. Your Care Rating gives care home residents across the UK the chance to speak up about their care and gives them a voice. Taking part in these annual surveys is something we’re committed to at Glen Rosa for that reason.”

All of this year’s results for every care home surveyed are displayed on the Your Care Rating website (www.yourcarerating.org). The website also shows how homes that took part in the survey last year performed. Its aim to to help families who are choosing a care home for a loved one by giving them information on what the residents actually think of each home and the standard of care.

The survey was compiled by research company Ipsos MORI with input from the care home operators taking part, plus the National Care Forum and Care England.

Glen Rosa has also been in the news recently thanks to actor John Middleton’s visit last year. The Emmerdale actor spent time at the home as part of his research for the soap’s award-winning storyline which centred on Ashley’s dementia and was told from his point of view. John was very appreciative of the MHA Glen Rosa team for all their help as he prepared for the role.
