STAFF and customers from an Otley pub have completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks to help a desperately ill friend.

The team from The Junction Inn completed the challenge, which includes ascents of Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent, last weekend.

Their effort has raised at least £2,500 for mother-of-four Sally Major, whose family is urgently trying to keep funding coming in for her cancer treatment in Germany.

Thirty three year old Mrs Major, from Silsden, has advanced bowel cancer and is receiving immunotherapy (not available on the NHS) at a private clinic in Hallwang.

Her husband Liam, on his latest post on the family's You Caring crowdfunding webpage, said there had been some 'amazing' results - but that they were facing a desperate situation with money running out.

Faye Briggs, who works at The Junction, said: "We know Sally as she is a friend of a friend and her story really touched everyone at the pub so they all wanted to help.

"We are desperately trying to raise money for her and hope this helps - we've still got some more sponsorship to collect."

Those who took part in the Three Peaks walk included: Ellie Briggs, Gav Pilkington, Millie Briggs, Lee Moral, Ryan Pollard, Alison Grey, Robin Devereux, Stacey Neilson, Chloe Thompson, Becky Outlaw (Mrs Major's sister), Rob Grey and Lee Dean.

Appealing this week, Mr Major said he desperately needed to raise at least £9,000 by Thursday, March 22 to keep his wife at the German clinic.

The family has already sold a car, remortgaged their home and borrowed from relatives, friends and the bank to fund the cutting-edge treatment.

Mr Major said: "I have never been so desperate so quickly, please I beg anything anyone can give or loan, we will try to repay as soon as we can, please help me, help us and our kids.

"Unless we get at least £9,000 together by Thursday we will quite literally have nowhere to go.

"Sally can barely stand for a second, has lost all muscle mass and we’re not able to get her home. Equally, we can’t afford to stay here so have no option, there’s no plan G."

He added: "I am literally begging, I can’t let my wife and amazing mum of my kids deteriorate, suffer and ultimately pass while knowing there’s treatment available that works.

"Unfortunately the NHS will not offer the treatment at present, we are desperately working with our MP to change this but we don’t have the beauty of time to wait, we need to fill the gap.

"We’ve drained our personal finances, maxed our credit, sold car, remortgaged, the business is currently £12,000 overdrawn.

“We have no more options for money, nothing, done. We can’t stay, we can’t go."

Regulars and staff at The Junction, meanwhile, have further fundraisers planned to help the family and will be taking part in a sponsored swim this weekend.

The pub will also be holding a fundraising musical evening for the cause, featuring a singer and DJ, on Easter Sunday, April 16.
