PUPILS and teachers at Burley Oaks Primary School in Burley-in-Wharfedale made it count for children by celebrating the NSPCC’s Number Day!

Pupils and teachers went head-to-head in fun and engaging math’s activities, raising £375.69 for the NSPCC. The money is used to protect children and prevent abuse through the charity’s projects and services, including ChildLine – the UK’s free, confidential 24-hour helpline and online service for children and young people – and Speak Out Stay Safe, which sees trained volunteers visiting every primary school in every community across the UK, to talk to children about abuse and where to get help if they need it.

Burley Oaks deputy head, Cathy Isaac, said: “Number Day is a brilliant way to raise money for the NSPCC as it allows us to support a worthwhile cause while having fun with maths to support children’s education.”

Lee Mitchell, NSPCC head of schools service, added: “It’s always inspiring to see the creative ways in which pupils and teachers take part in the event, whether it’s through our exciting activities or ‘Dress Up For Digits’. The money schools raise helps us in our fight for every childhood to keep children safe from abuse to allow them to focus on what’s important – their hopes, their ambitions and their education.”

The NSPCC’s ChildLine service provides a safe, confidential place for children with no one else to turn to, whatever their worry, whenever they need help.

Children can contact ChildLine 24 hours a day, 365 days a year on 0800 1111 or by visiting the childline.org.uk website.
