CHILDREN in the Early Years at Westville House School had a wonderful time learning all about Chinese New Year.

The 2017 Year of the Rooster was celebrated by children and with the help of staff and parents they made a giant Chinese dragon they could fit inside.

The dragon became the focus of Chinese New Year celebrations at the school, when it was paraded in the school assembly. The dragon then made an appearance on The Grove in Ilkley. The children braved chilly conditions and displayed their handiwork to people in the town. The day of learning included a specially made Chinese lunch of noodles and other delicacies.

Early Years Teacher Mrs Jules Coulthurst said: “It is wonderful to see children of such a young age learning through exciting activities. Every child just couldn’t wait to get into school to be part of the project. It is part of the ethos at Westville to provide amazing activities that stimulate learning and make school the very best place to be.”
