AFFORDABLE homes will be on the agenda at a meeting of Guiseley and Rawdon Labour Party.

A speaker from Leeds Community Homes will attend the meeting on Tuesday, December 13, and will describe the work the organisation is doing to create 1,000 permanently affordable homes in Leeds.

David Bowe, Secretary of Guiseley and Rawdon Labour Party, said: "We are hoping to hear from Leeds Community Homes and stimulate debate in Guiseley and Rawdon on how we can provide housing that meets the needs of people in Guiseley who cannot afford to purchase the large four and five bedroomed houses that are the favoured choice of private commercial property developers.

"Several house developers are currently seeking planning permission to build housing in and around Guiseley and we need to make it clear to decision makers in City Hall that if houses are going to be built in Guiseley they must meet the needs of our local community."

He said they were expecting a lively discussion during the event at 7.30pm at Guiseley Methodist Church and hoped to stimulate a debate on the issue in the wider community.
