MARIE Curie's volunteer fundraising group in Aireborough has raised over £85,000 since they formed in 2011 - enough to fund 4,286 vital hours of care for people and families living with a terminal illness in their communities.

As well as raising funds for the nursing service, they have raised the profile of Marie Curie in the Aireborough area; educating people about the services that Marie Curie provides and encouraging others to support the cause.

Over the years, the group have held collections at local supermarkets and on the streets of Guiseley and Yeadon for the Great Daffodil Appeal and at Christmas-time, looked after collection tins in stores across the Aireborough area. They have also supported local people who have raised money independently for Marie Curie. They have organised great fundraisers including pamper evenings, race nights, barbecues, themed evenings and cheese and wine nights.

Jen Aspinall, community fundraiser for Marie Curie said: "This is such an amazing achievement for the group and they should all be so proud. They are all volunteers who go above and beyond to support their local Marie Curie Nursing Service but also have lots of fun along the way. I know that they have all made lasting friendships and fond memories over the years, which is so wonderful to see, so a huge thank you on behalf of everyone at Marie Curie."
