AN OTLEY charity will be transporting elderly residents around in a brand new minibus this Christmas.

For Otley Action for Older People the arrival of the vehicle, which is fully disabled accessible, represents the end of a nearly two year process.

The group was told in January, 2015 that its application to the the Department of Transport for funding had been successful.

The contract was awarded to Minibus Options in Whaley Bridge, who liaised with the charity over the bus's design.

Project Manager Sue Trainor, commenting after going on a test drive, said: "Well worth the wait!

"We are over the moon with the minibus.

"Some of the features, such as the tail lift and the steps, we were unsure about but now that we have seen them we are very pleased with the result."

She added that the bus could also be made available to other local community groups.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer minibus driver for Otley Action for Older People, meanwhile, should contact Sue on (01943) 463965.
