A CARE trust which runs a mental health centre at Airedale Hospital has picked-up a top accolade.

Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust was among the winners in the national Positive Practice Awards.

The trust received the coveted Crisis Care Pathway Award, in recognition of a radical redesign of urgent mental health provision across the district.

As a result of the changes, people are being cared for closer to home and there have been no out-of-area placements over the past 18 months.

Mental health crisis support is now available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through a single phone call.

The service is operated by the trust in partnership with organisations including clinical commissioning groups, Bradford Council and the police.

Debra Gilderdale, interim director of operations and nursing with the trust, said: "We're delighted to have won the award, which reflects the hard work, dedication and commitment of all our staff and partners.

"The accolade is testament to Bradford's commitment to providing the best possible care for the whole community."
