OTLEY'S Bellman is celebrating once again - this time for triumphing at the 2016 Huddersfield Town Crier Competition.

Terry Ford, who recently came second in Dutch town Hattem's International Town Crier Competition, went one better in Huddersfield on Saturday, September 24.

As well as winning the overall prize - and being presented with the Huddersfield Giants Shield - Mr Ford, competing against criers from around the country, also won prizes for Best Content and Best Dressed Crier.

He said: "I am delighted with this victory in what will be my final competition of the year.

"This makes a total from eight competitions this year of four first places and four seconds.

"This competition was inaugurated in 2000 and the first winner of the Huddersfield Giants Shield was my predecessor, Otley Bellman Paddy Steval.

"It is an honour to bring it home to Otley on the sixteenth anniversary of the competition."

Otley Town Council Chairman Councillor Ray Georgeson (Lib Dem, Danefield) added: "Huge congratulations to Terry Ford once again, another trophy to add to the growing collection.

"All at the town council are proud of his achievements and pleased that once again Otley is being promoted around the country.

"He’s a great ambassador for the town."
