MP Stuart Andrew has chaired an HIV testing promotion event at Westminster.

Halfway to Worlds AIDS Day, organised by the Halve It campaign and All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on HIV and AIDS, was held on July 7.

More than 45 MPs, peers and advocates attended to hear about the progress to date and discuss how to obtain a more 'joined-up' approach to testing.

Mr Andrew (Con, Pudsey, Horsforth and Aireborough), a long-standing Halve It supporter and vice-chairman of the APPG, pledged his support for “collaborative commissioning between all stakeholders involved in HIV testing services".

Halve It is a coalition of 31 expert HIV organisations, which are working with all levels of government and the NHS to try to halve the proportion of people who are undiagnosed and late diagnosed with HIV by 2020.

There has been a 37 per cent fall in the number of late diagnoses and undiagnosed cases since the campaign began.

Speaking at the Halfway event, Deborah Gold, of the National AIDS Trust, said it was “an excellent opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the coalition and the wider HIV community".
