AN MP was among the crowds cheering on young 'powerboaters' at a competition in Otley.

Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) was invited to watch the Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship North East Area Finals at Otley Sailing Club on July 9.

Competitors from eight clubs, including those at Otley and Yeadon, took part and were divided into two age categories, from eight to 12 and 13 to 16

Mr Mulholland said: "I was delighted to be invited.

"It was great to see a high turnout of enthusiastic competitors and spectators, despite the mixed weather, and I really enjoyed being taken out on the lake in a powerboat.

"Special congratulations must go to the winners, Peter Owen and Daniel Woods, as well as Otley Sailing Club for staging the event."
