OTLEY'S MP has taken part in a special sporting tribute to tragic Parliamentary colleague Jo Cox.

Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) joined other members of the Parliamentary Rugby League Group to lay sunflowers at Batley Bulldogs' home game against Dewsbury on Sunday.

Batley and Spen MP Mrs Cox, who died after being stabbed and shot in Birstall on June 16, was a keen supporter of the Batley side and a member of the Parliamentary group.

The visiting politicians, wearing Batley shirts with 'Jo Cox' on the back, joined representatives from both clubs to lay flowers on the pitch before kick-off and observe a minute's silence.

Mr Mulholland, who chairs the Parliamentary Rugby League Group, said: "As well as being a great servant to her constituency of Batley and Spen and a formidable campaigner for justice, Jo was also a member of our group and supported Rugby League, notably promoting and assisting women and girls in Batley.

"We share the pain of Batley Bulldogs Girls, who have paid tribute to Jo, and all those involved in Rugby League locally who mourn her loss.

"The thoughts and prayers of the group are with her family and friends. She will be desperately missed but never forgotten."
