WHARFEDALE residents got their turn to find out more about Bradford Council's flood risk management strategy and voice their opinion at a consultation drop-in session in Ilkley on Tuesday.
The authority is producing a Local Flood Risk Management Strategy, in line with Government requirements, to guide and prioritise actions to manage the local flood risk. The strategy will also be used to identify where funding for future flood risk reduction schemes is required.
The aims are to improve understanding of flood risk, ensuring management spending is appropriately prioritised, reduce the impact of flooding, ensure appropriate development, and improve flood response and post-flood recovery.
As well as council officers, representatives of Yorkshire Water and the Environment Agency, who are working in partnership with the council on the strategy, were at the session in Ilkley Library.
Among those who came to see the documents, ask questions about the strategy and give their feedback were members of organisations who spoke at hearings regarding Bradford Council's Core Strategy last week, where flooding in the valley was also under discussion.
The council has also put its flood risk strategy online and made a questionnaire available for residents to give feedback. The deadline for responses is Monday.
