NOT Just Yorkshire Pudding will be the message at an Ilkley talk on the history of food and drink in Yorkshire this weekend.

Leyburn author, Dulcie Lewis, will take a light-hearted look at the history of the region's culinary delicacies in her talk to Ilkley and District U3A at the Clarke Foley Centre on Saturday.

She said: “The topic came about as I had a book with the same name published in 2006, and this talk uses material from that.

“There has been so much good food in Yorkshire in the past. All over the county, women used to be very proud of their baking skills. It was a badge of honour to be a good baker.”

Like many of her fellow countrymen, Dulcie’s favourite meal has to include Yorkshire pudding with some good gravy. This is the starting point for her talk, which will also tell of rich puddings, pies galore, enormous teas and multiple courses of local game.

Refreshments will be served from 10am and the talk starts at 10.30am. It is open to all U3A members. Entry is £2 on the door.
