HORSFORTH'S Olympic gold medallist Alistair Brownlee passed on some top tips for success when he visited a school where hundreds of children are to be given the chance to compete in a triathlon.

The Brownlee Foundation event on June 7 will see youngsters from Yorkshire primary schools aiming to emulate the success of the British triathlete and the current Olympic, European and Commonwealth champion.

They will take part in a special triathlon 'taster' experience, swimming 30 metres, cycling one kilometre and running 400 metres.

The event will be the latest in a series staged by the foundation, which was set up by Alistair and his brother, Jonathan, to encourage more youngsters into sport.

During his visit to Ashville College in Harrogate, Alistair, who grew up in Horsforth, gave pupils an insight into the gruelling training regime he has to undertake every day to stay at the top of his field.

The Harrogate event is being sponsored by sales and letting agent Linley and Simpson, which has offices at locations across Yorkshire, including Ilkley and Horsforth.

Will Linley was part of the company's charity fundraising team, which took part in the triathlon organised by Alistair at Harewood House last year.

He said: "I know from experience how hard a triathlon is – but this is hopefully the perfect introduction for the stars of tomorrow.

"We hope this event will spur on the next generation of budding Brownlees.

"Alistair and his brother, Jonny, are wonderful ambassadors, not just for sport, but for their home county of Yorkshire.

"We are delighted to be associated with such champions in helping to launch this event, and we hope it inspires Yorkshire’s young sporting talent to go for gold in the future."
