A RUNNING club based at Airedale Hospital is taking steps to raise cash for Manorlands.

The Airedale Dodgers are staging a five-mile 'Solstice Saunter' at the Bolton Abbey estate.

And runners of all abilities, plus walkers, are being urged to take part.

The event takes place on the longest day, June 20, starting at 7.30pm.

Sponsorship is being provided by Fenetic Wellbeing and Timothy Taylor brewery.

Dr Chris Healey – a founder of the Airedale Dodgers, whose 200-plus members include healthcare professionals and friends from Airedale NHS Foundation Trust – said: "Aside from the health benefits of regular exercise and improvements in teamwork within the hospital that have resulted from the club, we're delighted that the most spectacular success has been in terms of charity fundraising.

"We hope the Solstice Saunter will put the club on the map and add to the £40,000 we've raised thus far for Manorlands."

Andrew Wood, a fundraiser at the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice, said: "The Airedale Dodgers have done a fantastic job supporting us over the years and for us to be the benefitting partner of their first race is an honour and very exciting.

"We hope our large group of supporters who run and walk for us will sign-up quickly to avoid disappointment, as the event has a capacity of 500."

Entry costs £15, which includes a bespoke medal, chip timing and a bottle of Timothy Taylor's Le Champion ale.
