A WESTGATE Primary School pupil has been announced as the winner of this year's Otley Carnival poster competition.

Nine-year-old Emily Scholefield's bright design features a hot air balloon announcing the event's date, with assistance from an overhead plane.

Emily's design will be used as the front cover of this year's carnival programme, and she has also had a T-shirt produced sporting her drawing, donated by Colourfusion of Otley.

She was presented with her overall winner's trophy by Chris Coleman, of Blue Octopus Recruitment, who sponsored the contest.

The carnival's press and publicity officer, Nigel Gill, said: "The committee would like to thank Blue Octopus for being this year’s sponsors, this year’s judge, Mrs S Barton, and Colourfusion.

"We would also like to say a massive thanks to all the children who submitted entries. As always, the winner was difficult to choose due to the tough competition."

Runners-up, divided into age groups, were: Age 4 – Charlotte Moody, The Whartons Primary; Age 5 – Una Johum-Critchley, The Whartons; Age 6 – Tilly Morley, Westgate Primary; Age 7 – Amelie Tinslay, Westgate; Age 8 – Lizzie Macdonald, Westgate; Age 9 – Livia Mirfield, Westgate; Age 10 – Lucas Kelly, Westgate; Age 11 – Lauren Lister, Westgate.

This year's carnival takes place on June 18.
