ALIENS put in an appearance at Horsforth Featherbank School when youngsters let their imaginations run wild in a art workshop.

Local artist Zoe Finlayson joined forces with Walk of Art members, Lara Rule and Rachel Reid, to spend the morning helping pupils to get creative.

Children were encouraged to create imaginary adventures using words and pictures, and they designed and built flying saucers and created their very own space characters.

Now, the adventures of Ace the Alien will be on show as part of the Horsforth Walk of Art weekend on July 2 and 3.

A total of 17 artists have been sharing their skills with Horsforth schoolchildren in preparation for the community event, which is in its second year.

Lara said: "Who knows what type of art, craft or technology will stick.

"I came to creativity late in life and wish that as a child I had been given the opportunity to try my hand at a variety of different mediums. Art and creativity isn’t just how well you can draw. Creativity gives rise to flexibility and problem-solving skills, two things that will set our children up well for the future."

The work of schoolchildren will be displayed in high street windows during the weekend, and there will also be 30 open gardens, a moving concert, buskers, 80 exhibitions and 50 hands-on activities, all for free.
