YOUNG people gave their views on how to spend £56,000 of council funding during an event at Horsforth School.

More than 100 children and young people from 27 schools across Outer North West Leeds gathered at the event, where they also had the chance to quiz city councillors.

The session, hosted by the Outer North West Community Committee, gave participants the chance to say which activities they thought the money should be spent on during the coming year. It was the second year the event had been held.

Cllr Pat Latty, children's champion and chairman of the children and families sub-committee for Outer North West, said: "I am thrilled to be able to welcome all these young people to what I hope will become a regular event in our calendar.

"The children really throw themselves into it, and the decisions they make about spending the money show they are able to be quite objective and mature. An added attraction this year was speeches from the two young ladies trying to get elected to the UK Youth Parliament. All in all, a really worthwhile event, and congratulations to the children who got involved and made it work."

Among those attending were councillors Dawn Collins, Caroline Anderson, Barry Anderson, Sandy Lay, Billy Flynn, Pat Latty, Graham Latty, Paul Wadsworth and Brian Cleasby.
