OTLEY'S newly expanded Skate Park has been declared open by the town mayor.

A quarter pipe, kicker and manual pad have all been added to allow more skateboarders to enjoy the facility at Wharfemeadows Park.

Installed by Evolution Skateparks during December, the equipment was paid for by a grant from the town council's Voice Your Choice scheme.

Mayor, Councillor Philip Bye (Lib Dem, Prince Henry's), recently visited to see the results and present a £10,000 cheque to the Otley Skate Park Users Group.

Users Group and Sk8 Safe member, Sarah Agar-Brennan, said: "All in all, the results have been amazing.

"Leeds City Council has also fixed a few of the holes that had appeared around the skate park, and now the young people feel like they have a new park – they are all so very grateful."

Despite the rainy weather recently, visitor numbers at the attraction have been good and the feedback from skateboarders positive.

Users Group chairman, Denham Hill, said: "I have spent a great deal of time at the park since the new equipment was installed, wanting to connect with the users to get their opinions.

"They are so happy with the results and appear to be having fun whilst learning new skills."
