A COUPLE from Burley-in-Wharfedale have helped to raise £1,590 for Manorlands in memory of a friend who spent his last few hours in the Sue Ryder hospice in Oxenhope.

Alan and Judith Wood, of Burley-in-Wharfedale, were joined by Geoffrey Dransfield, of York, in August when they took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in memory of their friend Donald McCallum.

Donald spent his final few hours at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice where nursing staff made his last few moments as comfortable as possible. His friends wanted to mark the occasion and raise funds for the hospice by taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, reaching the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, in under 12 hours on August 7.

The team raised a fantastic £1,590 for Manorlands Hospice and the funds will be put towards providing further incredible care such as Donald received and care in the community in people homes to areas of Craven, Airedale, and Wharfedale as well as central, northern and western areas of Bradford.

Hospice fundraising assistant Jodie Batters said: "This is an amazing achievement from Judith, Alan and Geoffrey and lovely to have the support from Ann and David, Donald’s sister and brother in law, thank you for those who supported with their fundraising."
