AN OTLEY school has been congratulating its very own world champion.
Year 9 student Joe Fairburn, a keen archer since the age of six, won the Under 17 class of the World Bowhunter Championships in Hungary during the summer holidays.
A member of Archery GB's Academy talent programme, Joe will also be representing the British Field Archery TEam at the European Championships in October.
Joint Acting Head of PE, Jo Temple, said: "We are very proud of Joe.
"He works very hard at his Archery and it is great that it has paid off for him in this fantastic win.
"We support all sorts of sport both inside and beyond school at Prince Henry’s, and we are always very pleased when one of our students achieves something so momentous."
A member of the Bramhope-based Panda Bowmen club, Joe hopes to one day represent the country at Olympic level in both target and field archery.
