ILKLEY Literature Festival welcomes back award-winning comedian Jenny Eclair for the first time since 2010.

Set to fill the King’s Hall with laughs and loopy anecdotes, the Loose Women panellist presents her fourth novel, Moving, a keenly observed evocation of family dynamics with a twist of black humour.

The first female solo winner of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival's Perrier Comedy Award, Jenny Eclair appears at 12.30pm on October 11.

This new event means there has been an amendment to the Vince Cable show, which will now start at 2.30pm instead of 2pm.

Festival director, Rachel Feldberg, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome the hilariously funny Jenny Eclair back to Ilkley Literature Festival.

"She was extremely popular when she last came five years ago, and we know our audiences will be excited by this event. There's always a great buzz around the town during the 17 days of the festival, and that's part of the appeal for visiting authors. It's fantastic that household names enjoy returning to Ilkley so much.

"Jenny Eclair is one of a number of writers in this year’s line-up known for a whole range of skills, and it's great to see her writing in the spotlight.

"With more than 200 events in the programme, we know that when tickets go on sale on Tuesday, there will be something for everyone to enjoy, whatever their interest.”

Other highlights of the festival programme include Yorkshireman Brian Blessed, who will be talking about his autobiography, Absolute Pandemonium, and food critic Jay Rayner, who will reveal some of his more memorable and disastrous dining experiences. TV historian and documentary maker Professor Simon Schama will close the festival.

Acclaimed authors from across the world will also be making their way to the festival, including Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Jane Smiley, New York Times bestseller Jami Attenberg and, in a rare visit to the UK, Australia’s leading poet, Les Murray.

All tickets for the Ilkley Literature Festival events go on sale to the public at 9am on Tuesday.

They are available online at ilkleyliteraturefestival.org.uk, by phone from the box office on 01943 816714 or in person for King's Hall events only, either from Ilkley Visitor Information Centre or The Grove Bookshop.

Festival Friends enjoy priority booking from August 17 to 26, and are able to buy tickets for Jenny Eclair now.
