HUNDREDS of dictionaries have been presented to primary school pupils by Aireborough Rotarians.
So far this year, illustrated dictionaries have been given to youngsters at St Oswald’s in Guiseley and at Rufford Park, Queensway, St Peter and Paul and Westfield Junior in Yeadon, as well as St Margaret’s and Broadgate primaries in Horsforth.
Rotary spokesman, Robert Mirfield, said: "Next term, Newlaithes Junior Horsforth and Rawdon St Peter’s C of E Primary will be added to the list, bringing the total number of recipients in this year’s nine schools to 408, and underlining Rotary’s view of the importance of literacy for all.
"For many of these pupils, the dictionaries will be moving with them to secondary schools. Eight years on, it would be interesting to know just how far these two to three thousand books have travelled and how they have helped their owners’ development."
