WALKERS have enjoyed a tour of an award-winning Yorkshire Water facility at Esholt.

A group taking part in the 2015 Otley Walking Festival finished off their June 30 jaunt with a look around the water treatment works at the village.

Yorkshire Water spent £34 million on the site to create Yorkshire's first energy self-sufficient water treatment centre.

Chairman of Otley Walking Festival's organising committee, Ruth Blackwell, said: "Our guide, Helena, was really informative and it was a real eye-opener to discover how Yorkshire Water deals with what goes down the sink, bath and toilet!"

The power generated is used to both run equipment on the site and to add electricity to the national grid.
