A POPPY field has been planted in a Yeadon garden in tribute to soldiers who have served in conflicts during the past century.

The iconic flowers were planted for the first time last year to acknowledge the outbreak of the First World War, and it is intended to maintain the field for four years to match the length of the 1914-1918 conflict.

Local people are being invited to place their own piece of remembrance in the garden – whether in the form of a cross or some other type of tribute.

The garden, opposite Rufford Park School, belongs to Aireborough Historical Society archivist Carlo Harrison.

He said: "Last Christmas, we had a card hand-delivered that thanked us for recognising members of the armed forces in this way and was simply signed 'a serving soldier'."
