FLOWERING cherry trees have been planted at a First World War memorial stone in Rawdon.
Volunteers from Rawdon-in-Bloom planted the trees as the next phase of the memorial stone project on Rawdon Littlemoor.
Some of the white roses, representing the 99 residents of Rawdon who lost their lives in the conflict, are beginning to come into flower.
The stone, which was commissioned by Rawdon Parish Council, was officially unveiled in December last year by the Deputy Lieutenant for West Yorkshire, Stephen Boardman.
At the time a spokesman for Rawdon Parish Council said: "This was an ambitious project for a newly-established parish council and will provide an excellent tribute to all people in Rawdon affected by the First World War, not just the fallen who are recorded on the War Memorial but also the families, friends and workers who stayed behind and those who served and returned home."
Anyone who would like to help Rawdon-in-Bloom is invited to a meeting of the group on Monday, July 13 in the function room of the Emmott Arms. New members are always welcome.
