AN OTLEY woman is hosting a Blooming Great Tea Party to raise funds for Marie Curie.

Jayne Broadbent is putting on the tea party in memory of a friend who passed away in Marie Curie's Bradford hospice in June last year.

Jayne’s daughter Rachel and her friend have already raised £272 for Marie Curie this year by taking on the Swimathon at Aireborough Leisure Centre.

All the money raised will help Marie Curie provide more free care to people living with a terminal illness in their own homes.

Jayne said: “ My friend was cared for at the Hospice, it was all so quick, the hospice made us all feel completely at ease and my friend was comfortable. "June marks a year since my friend passed away so holding a Blooming Great Tea party seemed a great way for me to remember her and also fundraise for Marie Curie at the same time. I will be making my famous lemon drizzle cake.”

Hannah Saxon Community Fundraiser for Marie Curie said: "We are extremely grateful to Jayne for her support, the money raised from Jayne’s and other Blooming Great Tea Parties in the Leeds area will help Marie Curie provide expert care, guidance and support to help people living with a terminal illness get the most from the time they have left."

Jayne’s tea party will join others taking place across the country from June 20-29. Last year across the UK the Blooming Great Tea Party for Marie Curie raised £667,000, which pays for 33,350 hours of vital nursing care.
