A FUNDRAISING ball held in memory of an Otley boy has raised thousands for charity.

Harry's Pirate Ball, a black-tie event featuring a three course meal, live music and disco, took place at The Craiglands Hotel, Ilkley, on Saturday, April 25.

It was held in honour of Harry Buckley, a pupil at The Whartons Primary School, Otley, who died last year aged following a two and a half year fight against neuroblastoma cancer.

The evening raised more than £2,000 which will be split between children's cancer charity Candlelighters and Nuzzlets Farm, which takes animals to children's hospices.

Harry's mother, Sarah, said: "The ball was a great success and was attended by 194 people.

"The band, V Five, were enjoyed by all with the dance floor being full from the first song until the disco that followed ended at 1am.

"The atmosphere was amazing, with everyone being there to support Harry's charities and remember him.

"A short montage of video clips of Harry were played to the music of Katy Perry's Firework, which seemed a fitting tribute.

"We would like to thank all those who attended, all who made donations, and all those who sponsored our event, either through money or in the form of raffle prizes."

The book Harry wrote during his final months, Runaway Joey!, is also raising money for both charities.
