ELECTION candidate Greg Mulholland visited Bramhope-based construction firm Mone Bros to learn more about their work supplying construction equipment and landscaping materials across the UK.

The family-run business, which employs more than 70 staff, has been providing a range of professional services to the construction and utility sectors for more than 45 years.

Mr Mulholland, who served as the area’s MP for ten years, visited the Blackhill Quarry in King’s Road, from where Mone Bros have quarried and produced natural stone products since 1979.

Stone from the quarry has been used in local buildings and also in building Blackfriars Bridge in London.

The Blackhill Quarry was the set for many of the dramatic Emmerdale storylines of 2013, as it featured in the show repeatedly at the end of the year. Emmerdale chose the site because of the differing landscapes it provides.

Mr Mulholland said: “Mone Bros is a fantastic example of a local business that has built a reputation for being reliable and professional.

“Employing 70 people, it also does a vital job supporting the economy in Leeds. I was delighted to be able to visit the firm’s Blackhill Quarry site, meet the staff and learn about the work they do.”
