TWO daredevil friends from Wharfedale who jumped out of a plane in aid of cancer support are holding a surviving party this weekend in a bid to double their fundraising.

Alison Lesurf and Sarah Dickinson did their successful skydive in Hibaldstow in Lincolnshire last Thursday (April 2) and will be raising more cash for Macmillan Cancer Support with a fundraising event at the Forage Deli, High Street, Skipton, on Saturday (April 11) from 7.30pm.

The pair have already raised £1,500 and are hoping that the survival party will help them to double that amount.

Sarah, who lives in Otley, and Alison, from Ilkley, decided last summer to take up the SkyDive for Macmillan challenge, as at the time, Alison’s mum, Beatrice Lesurf, was two-and-a-half years into her battle with cancer.

Alison said: “We wanted to give something back for all the good work Macmillan do.

“My mum had been well supported by Macmillan nurses and she had a lot of time for the charity even before her own diagnosis.”

Sadly, her mother passed away almost two weeks before Christmas, at the age of 84.

Having successfully braved the sky dive and made it home unscathed, the two friends have decided to combine a celebration of completing the challenge with a further fundraising opportunity in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The party this Saturday will include dramatic film footage of both of their dives, plus live music, a raffle, tombola and games including roll a coin at the bottle, heads and tails and other fundraising activities.

There will also be a speaker from Macmillan to talk about the work done by the charity, and the important role played by donations and fundraising by members of the community.

Admission is by ticket only, at £15 each.

So far, an additional £900 has been raised, but the two are hoping to do even better for the cause.

The skydives were self funded, so all of the sponsorship money will go straight to Macmillan Cancer Support. Donations can be made online at justgiving.com/Alison-Lesurf or justgiving.com/Sarah-Dickinson5.
